In Pre-K we..........

  • learned all about Lucas!  Lucas was the Friend of the Week.  Did you know his favorite present is an ice cream maker that he got from Hayden?  His favorite cake is vanilla cake and vanilla frosting, "just regular cake".  He shared one of his favorite books from home, 10 Fat Turkeys.  He also shared his favorite snack, mac and cheese and corn muffins, double yum!!!!
  • continued with our dinosaur theme, but we also have a sub-theme of "small and tall", "big and little" emerging.
  • had a reading explosion, seriously!!!!  The Unicorns are starting to read.  They read Tall and Small and Hug by Jez Alborough.  It is very exciting!
  • have spinmania!  The Unicorns have been decorating paper plates and cutting them into spirals.  After tying yarn to the plates the Unicorns run with them and they have spinners!!!
  • are putting dinosaur counters in plastic eggs and hiding them.  Other Unicorns are finding them.
  • went on our first subway trip!!!!  We went to see Queen Marlene's birthday show.  It was a very interactive show that was funny!  The Unicorns seemed to like the real birthday cake that was served at the end. The Toy Museum would be a fun place to visit with your family!
  • saw a second show at school the next day!  We saw the story of Hiawatha.  The Unicorns took away a lot more than I thought they would.  It was an engaging puppet show.  Ask your child what they learned or thought about Hiawatha.
  • played "build a tower".
  • each got our own Unicorn from Farah and Shay!  Thank you Killens!  That was very generous!!!
Tom, have a fun weekend with Corduroy!!!!!

Congratulations to Clara, she won our Staffle Raffle!  Thank you for all your participation! (For a consolation prize  Mrs. Hudson and I will take all the Unicorns to my house for a picnic lunch in May.)

Our Poem:
Inside her egg shell, white and round,
Baby dino is safe and sound.

But she wants to come out into the light,
So she pushes and shoves with all her might.

Her shell soon cracks and creaks and pops,
One big jump and out she hops!
-The Unicorns identified the rhyming words.
They are in the process of memorizing it.

In Pre-K we.....

  • went to the Carroll Gardens library.  We made dinosaurs with poems on their bellies, GOT OUR OWN LIBRARY CARDS, and checked out a book!  It was a successful trip!   If you want me to return your child's library book for you, please return the book to school by Friday, March 30th.
  • went to the Staffle Raffle and each Unicorn got a free ticket to put in Ms. Hudson's and my can or Ms. Marsh's can.  Most chose our can and the Unicorns think they will win even though we tried to explain that 1 person will win.  I think it is a hard concept for them to understand developmentally.  We are trying to think of a way to remedy the disappointment.  We'll let you know what we come up with.

3.  Save your plastic grocery bags for the Pre-k Earth day weaving activity on April 5th!  We still need a couple of parent volunteers for that day.  It will be from 10:25 to 11:10am.  Let me know who is up for it!
